     Why choose Golden             Omega Flaxseeds?

Q: What is flaxseed? What health benefits does it provide?

A: Several substances in flaxseed may provide health benefits:

  • Lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens, which may play a role in preventing cancers of the breast, endometrium and prostate. Lignans are found in most unrefined grains (barley, buckwheat, millet and oats), soybeans, and some vegetables (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and spinach). But flaxseed is the richest source of lignans.

  • Fiber. Flaxseed contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. Studies show that the soluble fiber in flaxseed — like fiber found in oat bran and fruit pectin — can help lower cholesterol and help regulate blood sugar levels. Insoluble fiber aids in digestion by increasing bulk, reducing the time that waste remains in the body and preventing constipation. These characteristics may help protect against colon cancer.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseed contains alpha linolenic acid, which is both an essential fatty acid and an omega-3 fatty acid. Researchers are interested in omega-3 fatty acids for their role in infant development and immune and inflammatory disorders. Omega-3 fatty acids help lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Many experts believe the typical Western diet has too little omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseeds, non-gmo canola oils, walnuts and fatty fish (swordfish, salmon, mackerel and herring) all contain omega-3 fatty acids. You can also buy omega-3 enriched eggs produced by hens that are fed flaxseed.

Canadian dietary guidelines recommend 1.0 to 1.5 grams of omega-3 fat per day, which you can get in 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil. Although the United States has no specific dietary guidelines for omega-3 fat, health experts recommend foods containing this fat as part of a healthy diet.

Incorporating flaxseed into your diet is simple and can add a tasty twist to routine foods and dishes. The small, reddish-brown whole seeds have a nutty taste. Sprinkle them over salads, soups, yogurt or cereals. Whole or ground flaxseed can replace some of the flour in bread, muffin, pancake and cookie recipes. Because of flaxseed’s high fat content, you can use it to replace part or all of the fat in baked goods recipes: Substitute 1 cup of flaxseed for 1/3 cup of fat. Adjust your oven temperature and the total baking time to allow for more rapid browning.

   WE'RE FLAX CRAZY!

     Whats the history?

Common flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) was one of the first crops domesticated by man. Flax is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean region of Europe; the Swiss Lake Dweller People of the Stone Age apparently produced flax utilizing the fiber as well as the seed. Linen cloth made from flax was used to wrap the mummies in the early Egyptian tombs. In the United States, the early colonists grew small fields of flax for home use, and commercial production of fiber flax began in 1753. However, with the invention of the cotton gin in 1793, flax production began to decline. During the 1940's fiber flax production in the U.S. dropped to nearly zero. Today a few individuals still grow fiber flax for their own use to make linen. Presently the major fiber flax producing countries are the Soviet Union, Poland, and France and parts of the USA.

          Naturally great for health!

             FLAX HELPS TREAT                           ROSACEA

          FLAX  HELPS TREAT                               ACNE

Help treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn and rosacea: The essential fatty acids in flaxseed oil are largely responsible for its skin-healing powers. Red, itchy patches of eczema, psoriasis and rosacea often respond to the EFA's anti-inflammatory actions and overall skin-soothing properties. Sunburned skin may heal faster when treated with the oil as well. In cases of acne, the EFAs encourage thinning of the oily sebum that clogs pores.

Flaxseed Oil:
Flaxseed is 35% oil, and 55% of that oil includes the crucial omega-3 fatty acid and 45% Omega-6 fatty acid. Remember, both omega-3 and 6 are essential oils that need to be included in your diet to promote heart health but are sorely missing in the foods we eat today. Essential means that your body cannot make it but requires it and so must derive all of it from the food you eat.

Flaxseed Fiber:
Flaxseed is 35% fiber with one-third being Soluble (digestible) Fiber and two-thirds Insoluble (non-digestible) Fiber. Soluble Fiber has been shown to lower cholesterol and regulate blood sugars, thereby helping with both heart disease and diabetes.

Lignans:
Lignans are an exciting type of insoluble fiber that act as phytoestrogens and have been shown to help relieve the symptoms of menopause, as well as having anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It is the anticancer effects of lignans that have received the most research lately.

Suggested Daily Usage:
4 Tablespoons of Flaxseed or 1/4 cup of seeds is the suggested daily usage. Flaxseed is a hard seed that needs to be ground into fine flour and this is easily accomplished with most coffee grinders. Immediately pour the flaxseed flour into a glass and add at least twice as much liquid. Stir and drink immediately. If the drink is too thick, add more liquid then stir and drink. Any kind of juice will work, and is also tasty with just plain water. Add a couple of Tablespoons or more of ground flaxseed to Pancakes, Yogurt, Cereal, Soups, Salads, Smoothies, Peanut Butter for smaller children and whatever else you can think of.

      Why Go Organic?

Organic products meet stringent standards : Organic certification is the public’s assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent toxic chemical inputs.

Organic food tastes great! It’s common sense – well-balanced soils produce strong, healthy plants that become nourishing food for people and animals.

Organic production reduces health risks: Many EPA-approved pesticides were registered long before extensive research linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases. Organic agriculture is one way to prevent any more of these chemicals from getting into the air, earth and water that sustain us

Organic farmers build healthy soilSoil is the foundation of the food chain. The primary focus of organic farming is to use practices that build healthy soils.

 Healthier     Younger         Skin

Flax seed oil contains high levels of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids which can either be taken internally by eating the flax seeds or taking flax seed oil supplements or it can be applied externally as a pack for healthy skin. Used in soaps and lotions works wonderfully for it’s healing properties and for general healthy skin.

Flax seed oil is useful for healing scars, abrasions and also has anti-inflammatory properties and so is useful for inflamed skin or skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. Flax seed oil is also useful for dry skin.

Many skin problems today such as acne, eczema and psoriasis may also be partly due to the fact that the modern diet is lacking in omega 3 essential fatty acids. As a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids flax seed is able to replenish the correct body levels of these fats and so benefit skin disorders that may result from a deficiency.

Patrick Holford says in his book "New Optimum Nutrition Bible", "Another important component of a good skin diet is the Omega 3 and 6 essential fats. Each cell membrane - in effect the skin of each cell - is composed partly of essential fats, and in turn your skin is made up of countless cells. So the fatty acid content of your cell membranes is vital. Not only do the essential fats keep cell membranes smooth and soft, but also they help the membranes to do a better job of controlling what goes in and out of the cells. Without enough fats in the cell membranes, they are not able to retain water and they lose their plumpness.

Flax seed oil benefits acne as the fatty acids present in flax seed help to prevent the clogging of the pores of the skin and thin the sebum which causes these clogged pores.

Psoriasis is another skin disorder that is benefited by taking flax seed. Flax seed contains the omega 3 fatty acid ALA which is broken down by the body into EPA. EPA supplementation has been found to be beneficial for psoriasis sufferers when used with their normal medication.

You can take flax seed oil internally by sprinkling ground flax seed over cereals and salads or adding whole flax seeds to a glass of water and drinking immediately (if you leave it too long it will solidify the water).

Omega 3 essential fatty acids such as are found in flax seed are essential for healthy skin and can benefit skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis and eczema. In order to get the full benefits of flax seed for your skin include flax seeds in your diet, take flax seed supplements and use external applications of flax seed oil packs.

                 Flax Healing Lotion with Minerals

Nutrients for Healthy Skin                             Inside and Out...

Vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients can give your skin the youthful glow of good health.
By Colette Bouchez
WebMD Feature

Of all the news coming from the beauty community, the loudest buzz may be about the power of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to give skin a more radiant, healthy, and, yes, youthful glow.

The excitement is focused not only on creams and lotions you put on your skin but what you put into your body as well. Health experts say that vitamins and minerals in all forms play an integral role in a healthy complexion, whether the source is food, supplements, or even a jar of cream.

"Your skin is the fingerprint of what is going on inside your body, and all skin conditions, from psoriasis to acne to aging, are the manifestations of your body's internal needs, including its nutritional needs," says Georgiana Donadio, PhD, DC, MSc, founder and director of the National Institute of Whole Health in Boston.

If you feed your skin from the inside and out, experts such as Donadio and others say you can't help but benefit.

"There is a lot of important new research showing tremendous power of antioxidants in general, and in some specific nutrients in particular that can make an important difference in the way your skin looks and feels -- and even in how well it ages," says nutritional supplement expert Mary Sullivan, RN, co-founder of Olympian Labs. "When combined with a good diet, the right dietary supplements can help keep your skin looking not only healthy, but also years younger."

So which nutrients do you need to keep your skin healthy and looking its best? According to the experts interviewed by WebMD, plus new information from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the following vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients nourish your skin, whether you take them in supplement form, apply them directly to you skin, or make sure you get enough from the foods you eat.
